Obituary for Sallie Carter Williams
Sallie Victoria Hembree Carter Williams, lifelong resident of McCrory, Arkansas departed this life on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 from the Woodruff County Health Center of McCrory at the age of 91. She was born in McCrory, Arkansas on February 12, 1926 the daughter of the late Wright and Queen Idella Wade Hembree.
Mrs. Williams attended school in the Hilleman Community. She was a longtime member of Good Hope Baptist Church and was very active in the church where she taught Sunday school and played the harmonica. Mrs. Williams had retired from being employed at American Greetings where she worked for many years and was active with the Eastern Star. She enjoyed visiting people in the Nursing Home, working in her yard and loved to squirrel hunt where she was known as a better shot than her husband.
Mrs. Williams is preceded in death by her parents, Wright and Queen Idella Hembree, her husband, Virgil Williams, Sr. one infant daughter, Victoria Ann Carter, three brothers, Johnnie Hembree, Walker Hembree, Henry Hembree, one sister, Donnie Lee Ferrell and one grandchild.
Mrs. Williams is survived by one son, Wayne Carter of McCrory, Arkansas, one daughter, Sandra Dechaine of Woodstock, Georgia, one sister, Mary Rudick of Merrillville, Indiana, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Charles Dallas, Joe Szydlowski, Gary Carter, Dennis Johnson, Jerry Rankins and Butch Walters. Honorary pallbearers are Keith Barnett, Sonny Dewitt and Bob Elam.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2017 with 2:00 p.m. funeral services following at the Thompson-Wilson McCrory Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in White Hall Cemetery.
